Stabilized wood is wood impregnated with a synthetic resin that penetrates and fills all pores and cavities in the wood structure. The wood is then exposed to high pressure and temperature, which causes the resin to harden. The result is increased strength and durability of wood, reduction of shrinkage and swelling associated with moisture, and protection against the destructive effects of moisture, deformation and decay.
Any species of wood can be stabilized.
If I make a pen holder of wood burl, it is always stabilized. Due to their heterogeneous structure, burls are characterized by irregular strength. Therefore, it is important to stabilize them in the case of small wooden products, they should be reinforced in smaller sections.
